ernesto_riveiro 2011 . acryl sur toile . (Ref.09). 150 × 150 cm.

Ernesto Riveiro’s paintings and drawings marry stroke, line and stain to produce deliberately composite works. His paintings present the edges of spaces where reality tends to dissolve in a maze of colors, explosions and vortices of paint and drawing. The painting in this work appears as a sieve where a line or stroke incarnate as what could or would be the sketch of a figure or object. Yet, the lines themselves seem to be absorbed within the flux of traces and strata of drawn colors. Its this movement of the hidden and the emergent that is visible in the snares of color, in amidst the links and lines that are the essential elements of his paintings. Confronting his work, we find ourselves situated in the intra-space of appearance and persistence. The painting provides the visual strata and the drawing reveals the tracery and mesh. The gesture of color, and the organic network of strokes serve a constant movement of forms in space, giving a tangible quality to instability while informing our perceptive dissonance with power.
